We have a regular group of keen solution focused people, but wonder if there are other people who would like to come and don't as yet know about us. Have a look at the Regional Group Page if you want to find out what we have been up to lately. Do contact Kidge Burns, our co-ordinator, for an invitation and details of the venue.
New Resources on the UKASFP Website
08 February, 2012
Go to the UKASFP homepage click on the ‘member area’ box located in the top right-hand corner. ‘SF books’ and ‘SF research’ are blue tabs situated near the middle of this page.

The books are listed alphabetically by book title and you can browse the articles by category. Journal articles are added on a regular basis and can be browsed by subject headings including:

• Addiction
• Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome
• Education
• Learning disabilities
• Mental health
• Organisational
• Physical health
• Social work

It is part of Joanne's preferred future to regularly add more articles and books so that UKASFP members have easy access to a rich, up-to-date SF evidence base. If you have a relevant book or article reference which you would like to be included in the SF research section, please send it to joanne.iddon@nhs.net. She would also love to hear from you if you have written a book review and would like to share it with other UKASFP members on the site.

Season's Greetings from Andrew Callcott, UKASFP Chair
23 December, 2011
"Greetings Miracle Workers! It is a pleasure to send you all an end of year message from myself and the UKASFP board.

As we enter the festive season, I wonder....Will Santa Claus bring us a 2013 conference proposal? Does this fit with anyone's New Year's Resolution? or maybe even their best hopes?"

Best wishes to all from Andrew Callcott, Chair of the UKASFP

Request for Research Participants
15 December, 2011
You are receiving this email as a request to potentially participate in a qualitative Delphi study of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) clinicians/trainers/professionals regarding the nature of solution building. This research is being conducted by Adam Froerer and Elliott Connie. We are specifically looking for SFBT “experts” who are willing to answer three (3) rounds of questions about what solution building is and how SFBT therapists go about solution building with their clients. This study will be completed using electronic surveys through email and surveymonkey.com. Each round of questions will have an open response time of two weeks, and an additional two to four weeks will be used by the researchers to analyze the responses after each round of questions. Therefore, the total research study will last approximately 12-18 weeks.
In order to participate in this study participants must meet at least 2 of the following “expert” criteria:
• Must have authored or coauthored at least two (2) peer reviewed articles, book chapters, or books in the last five years that are related to solution focused brief therapy.
• Must have conducted at least three (3) workshops, trainings, or presentations at national/international conferences in the last five years that were related to solution focused brief therapy.
• Must hold a training or education position (i.e. program director, professor, training supervisor, etc.) that leads participants/students to certification or degree with related solution focused brief therapy curriculum.

In addition, participants in this study should be willing to revise or re-examine their initial or previous judgments or opinions about solution building, given group responses.

Potential participants will be asked to supply the researchers with an email address at which they can be reached with information related to the study. These email addresses and all collected information will remain confidential. No identifying information will be asked for during the actual survey and researchers will be unable to link individual responses to specific participants. Results of each round of surveys and the final results will be presented as cumulative group results rather than individually identifiable results.

It is anticipated that survey results will lead to a consensus of SFBT “experts” regarding what the aspects of solution building are and what clinicians do to help their clients solution build. It is also anticipated that SFBT clinicians and trainers will be able to draw on these results to enhance the solution building efforts of their clients.

If you are interested in participating, please click on the link provided here to complete the qualification questionnaire: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3ZV2JCG. If you have any questions about the study please feel free to contact either of the researchers at the email addresses provided below.

Finally, if you know of another individual who may be interested in this study and meets the “expert” qualifications, please feel free to forward this email and recruitment flier along.

We appreciate your time and consideration of this study!

Best,

Adam Froerer

Systematic review of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with children and families published today
24 November, 2011
A systematic literature review has been published by the Department for Education. This research brief arises from the second Serious Case Review (SCR) following the death of Peter Connelly (Haringey Local Safeguarding Children Board, 2009) It is set against a background of government reports and recommendations for safeguarding and protecting children, which emphasise the need to ensure professionals’ decision-making is based upon sound professional judgements (HM Government, 2010; Laming, 2009; Munro, 2011). It can be downloaded from the UKASFP Documents section.
