Hi Tony, I was told today that there was a heated exchange between two people in a BBC radio interview yesterday late afternoon. One comment quoted to me was 'if you keep talking to people about problems what do you get? Problems'. I've tried to find it on the Listen Again section but had no luck as yet.
All the best,
Steve

Steve,
I was driving into Birmingham when I first heard the item which led to my original post - it was on Eddie Mair's pm show on Radio 4, followed by a mention on the six o'clock news same station. The 'debate' was on PM, as I recall.

Hi Paul (Avard) and team, This is the link to the blog discussion on CBT etc. The interview is also available as a 'listen again' option.

I just find it interesting that when some folk discuss therapies the language used is "the chemotherpay was not successful" but when CBT doesn't work, the language implies the patient failed the therapy not that the therapist was not asking the right questions!
What about the other 50% who CBT doesn't 'do it for them', well not exactly 50% because of the stringent inclusion criteria (reading age, language, motivation, concentration), so far more than 50% of folk who need to talk to someone about their goals and find ways of getting there!
I think the pilot schemes like the one in Newham didn't just use CBT, they worked collectively looking at social stressors, housing, employment, family support, quite goal focused and pragmatic, how much of the success of the pilot was contributed by the practical support and how much on the 'challenging dysfunctional thinking'?
