I suspect that after this over-the-top exchange which **started off** with demands for resignation, no one is going to want to turn up anyway for fear of being shouted at and accused of various organisational misdemeanours. Martin, I am very fond of you as you know, but your tirade against Staffs smacks more of some bizarre political background to do with 'who got the conference' (there was enough of that unsavoury activity going on at Preston, thank you) - a fact which most ordinary members are frankly not interested in as long as they end up with a decent conference and a feeling of welcome into the UK SF community.
The issues regarding professionalism, usefulness, accreditation etc. are not new and will undoubtedly be resolved in time, particularly if/when we attract a wider membership. There are many of us who think the UKASFP is fine the way it is too so I resent the implication that the committee are somehow not representing the membership.
So let's all calm down and think about how we can make the AGM and interesting, welcoming, and useful event that *all* members will want to make the effort to come along to.
I think the best way to make sure the AGM is well attended is to start the conference at noon on the Friday. I suspect that many people simply won't bother turning up because they are using the time to get to the venue, if indeed they come on the Friday at all. If it's a 2 day conference then it should at least include something conference-like on the first day.
