Solution focused practice touches many people’s lives as a result of the quiet revolution in approaches to care, welfare, education and employment. From individual counsellors and coaches to whole organisations in the public and private sector the evidence and benefit of the approach can be seen. The solution focused approach is also becoming a key part of guidance from several UK governmental departments.
What is Solution-Focused Practice?
Solution-Focused (SF) Practice is the practical application of SF principles, which can be defined as:-
- The establishment of what a “preferred future” might be·
- The identification of ways in which this is already happening
(Agreed with Steve de Shazer May 2004)
SF practice occurs in an increasingly wide range of contexts including health, social services, education, and organizational work. It’s also becoming increasingly recognised as a benchmark of good practice by the Department of Health and other UK Governmental Bodies.
The role of the UKASFP is to help further the use of this approach (see our Statement of Association) and create a national profile for those using SF. We do this by hosting an annual national conference, and by encouraging practitioners to share good practice and to meet locally wherever possible. The web site also makes it possible for those looking for practitioners to locate our members through the Directory, and as groups of people want to share practice we will help by providing space to do that – such as the group of trainers, individual members who are more easily identified in this way. ( see link). We also produce a quarterly newsletter which has a global readership and content that you cannot afford to miss!
We would welcome you as a UKASFP member for a modest fee of only £25 a year. Members have access to shared knowledge and discussions focused on developing good practice in solution focused work – as well as reduced costs for the annual Conference.
